ABOUT

Helen was born and raised in a suburb just outside of Philadelphia – Norristown, Pennsylvania. At an early age she knew she would be a teacher, however when a registered nurse spoke passionately about her vocation during a career day, the experience strongly impacted her. Upon graduating from high school Helen immediately enrolled into a Nursing Program at Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) where she earned her Associates in Applied Sciences as a Registered Nurse.

Helen continued to further her education at Temple University and later transferred to Philadelphia University, where she changed her major and obtained a BS in Psychology with a concentration in Human Sexuality. She also holds a Master’s in Business Administration – Global Management. After years of running, in 1998 she found her niche finally saying  yes to her spiritual calling and was licensed in 1999 as a Minister of the Gospel by her then father in the ministry, Bishop Dennis E. Joell at Shiloh Baptist Church. Later she furthered her ministerial training and served at Trinity Bible Baptist Church. Helen has utilized her gifts of teaching, preaching and exhortation by serving in many capacities such as:

  • The Minister of Music and Praise & Worship Leader at Shiloh Baptist Church
  • Member of Minister John Murray & Worship (gospel musical group) opening for gospel artists Ty Tribbett, Pastor Hezekiah Walker and many others
  • Well sought after teacher, motivational teacher, preacher and conference panelist

Actress – Helen snagged a lead acting role where her character was the wife of national recording artist & preacher – Bishop Bruce Parham in Damon Harris’ play “Always Remember”

A job opportunity relocated her to Georgia and in 2006 she joined Berean Christian Church where she tirelessly serves in many areas. On August 28, 2016 Helen was ordained at Berean Christian Church Gwinnett where Dr. Kevin Lee is her Pastor and Dr. Kerwin Lee is the Founder and Overseer. And in May of 2017, she earned her Doctorate of Ministry – Pastoral Leadership from Andersonville Theological Seminary.

An avid traveler and sports fan, she makes NO secret who her FAVORITE team is (Philadelphia EAGLES!!) If not at an Eagles game, she enjoys traveling especially retreating each July to a different Caribbean Island for her birthday and spiritual renewal. “There is something about the water that makes me feel closer to GOD”.

Her preaching style and personality are similar in that she incorporates humor, transparency, and relatability. It’s no surprise that in 2016, she finally launched HeyyyHelen.com where she chronicles her Faith, Fashion & Football.  Helen is the first to acknowledge that she is a work in progress and knows without a shadow of doubt that GOD is real and His Will is Good, Acceptable, and Perfect. Her favorite scripture is Psalm 34:1, “I will bless the Lord at all times and His praises shall continually be in my mouth.”
